We’re in the thick of Colorado hunting seasons and hunters from across the country flock to Gunnison County every fall in hopes of taking home big game from the big mountains! Staying at Three Rivers Resort in Almont allows hunters access to spectacular game units plus all of the lodging amenities necessary for the perfect hunting basecamp.
- Game Management Units 54 and 55
These units are some of the most sought-after hunting units in the state. Staying in Almont allows easy access to either unit. Hunting the remote areas surrounding Crested Butte, Gunnison, Taylor Park, Fossil Ridge and Ohio Creek is a dream. The areas are abundant with elk and deer. Be ready to hike because there is a lot of ground to cover and a lot of elevation gain!

Lodging Options from Cabins to Homes
Hunters have been staying at Three Rivers Resort for many decades. The location is excellent and so are the variety of lodging options. With 15 styles and prices of lodging to choose from, there is certainly something for everyone. Choose a rustic one room cabin or bring all of your hunting buddies to stay in a large 5 bedroom vacation home. Every cabin has a full kitchen for cooking meals (and saving money). Some cabins and homes have shared or private hot tubs to soothe those aching muscles after a day of climbing around the mountains. The resort even offers a handful of full hook-up RV sites for fully self-contained campers.

Hunting Amenities
Hunters may require specific needs for lodging amenities such as access to license purchases, parking availability, a place to hang animals, etc. Three Rivers Resort caters to hunters and understands their needs. The resort general store has a full fly-fishing shop where you can purchase over the counter hunting licenses. Or grab some fishing gear when it’s time to take a break from hunting. All resort guests have access to private fishing on the Taylor River. Behind the store, hunters will find a convenient covered pavilion provided for cleaning and hanging animals. There is a hose, trash cans, ladders and scaffolding provided by the resort. Hunting requires lots of stuff – ATV’s, coolers, trucks, trailers, etc. Most of the cabins offer ample parking and space for trailers and “stuff” but inquire in advance about parking availability.
-
Direct Access to National Forest
Three Rivers Resort conveniently borders the Gunnison National Forest. When hunting just up the hill from the resort, it is not even necessary to trailer an OHV to the hunting location. Many hunting guests will drive directly from their cabins to the forest service road behind the resort. For other locations in the immediate Almont area, it is just a short 1-5 mile drive to access the areas of the Almont Triangle, Flat Top, or Spring Creek. The central location is ideal for hunting the entire area – just 10 miles to Gunnison, 17 miles to Crested Butte and 20 miles to Taylor Park.

Staff Who Hunt
The most frequently asked question by hunters is “where are the animals?” If you’re staying at the Holiday Inn, chances are the front desk staff will not have an answer for you. At Three Rivers Resort, there are quite a few of the staff members who hunt. They are always going to give out some advice and point you in a good direction (although, don’t ask them for their secret spots).
